Imagine the Baltimore Region in 2060…
How will you get around? Will you walk, bike, drive, or take a bus, a train, or even a ferry?
Decisions made today help to determine the future. That is why The Baltimore Regional Transportation Board (BRTB) and the Baltimore Metropolitan Council (BMC) invited citizens and organizations from all around the Baltimore region to take part in a process to imagine the future of transportation.
This initiative, called imagine 2060, facilitated a dialogue about how to plan for the Baltimore region we want to create for future generations.
Wanted: doers, thinkers and visionaries!
Thank you to everyone who attended a public workshop or one of our nine interactive Open Houses in 2010.
We were looking for widespread input and participation from residents and organizations throughout the Baltimore region as we look fifty years into the future.
Learn more about imagine 2060
To sustain our high quality of life, we must look at how we grow and how we are connected. Imagine 2060, grew out of the BRTB’s desire to work with community leaders and other regional stakeholders to develop general agreement on goals and values for a balanced 21st century transportation system. In addition, a key focus of the imagine 2060 was to improve accessibility for all and promote livable and sustainable communities throughout the metropolitan area.
As part of imagine2060, the BRTB:
- engaged the public in a variety of ways;
- conducted technical analyses of the impacts of alternative transportation and land development scenarios; and
- developed consensus on a preferred scenario for the vision.
The BRTB provides a forum for decisions on transportation investments. The input gathered in imagine 2060 will guided the development of the federally mandated, financially constrained 2011 Baltimore Region Long-Range Transportation Plan.
